Arthritis
or joint problems, asthma, anxiety or depression, back problems, digestive disorders such as I.B.S., frozen joints, hay fever, high blood pressure, migraines, menopausal or period problems, panic attacks, stress related disorders and tension.
These are all typical of the type of problems which bring people to acupuncture. They can be distressing and affect your quality of life. You can be confident that in over 14 years of practise we have experience of treating hundreds of people with health problems ranging from arthritis to back pain, depression to stress. We know that over 90% of our patients tell us that they get positive benefits from their treatment.
You may be surprised to find that an Acupuncture treatment is a truly relaxing and comfortable experience which is dedicated to improving your health and well being.
The needles used are very fine in order to cause you minimal sensation when they are inserted. We use only high quality, single use, disposable needles. You may also receive therapeutic massage to relieve tension and pain in specific areas, bringing deep relaxation to your whole body.
Because Qi energy travels along pathways, known as meridians, all over the body, you may be asked to undress to your underwear in order to facilitate use of the most appropriate acupuncture points for you. Our treatment room is completely private and comfortable.
Overall, a treatment session should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience for you.
We suggest that you have treatment weekly for 5 or 6 sessions, during this time you should see steady improvement in your health. It is then up to you to determine how often you want to have treatment in order to maintain improved health.
Acupuncture has been used in the Orient for healing for some 3,000 years. The human body may appear solid, but we are mainly vibrating molecules of energy. This energy is called Qi in Chinese medicine.
This Qi gives life to every cell in your body and travels along meridians just below the skin surface, as shown in the picture on the left. At various points along these meridians the Qi can be accessed and influenced using an acupuncture needle.
Sometimes the Qi does not flow easily through the body. This may be due to localised inflammation or trauma or muscles which are tense and constrict the flow. Your emotional state can also influence and be influenced by Qi. Depression or anxiety can negatively affect the chemistry of your body and thus your Qi.
Acupuncture is a very elegant system of medicine which works with your Qi, supporting your body and enabling it to function as best it is able to. Rather than trying to treat specific illnesses, as in Western Medicine, Acupuncture works to support your body's natural, innate healing processes.
When Qi is allowed to circulate throughout the body without interference, then you will naturally sustain a state of good health.
